Collective action to tackle plastic pollution.

World Environment Day 2025#BeatPlasticPollution

On World Environment Day 2025, our focus is clear: #BeatPlasticPollution for a healthier planet and healthier people. At Hakijamii, we witness daily how plastic pollution exacerbates the vulnerabilities of marginalized communities in Kenya, impacting their health and well-being and intensifying the climate crisis.

This World Environment Day is a powerful reminder that addressing plastic pollution is fundamental to human rights. It’s critical for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, from climate action to healthy ecosystems. We advocate for, empower and elevate the voices of those on the frontlines; waste pickers and affected communities by ensuring that they are included in the development of policies and governance of the environment.

We need to collectively champion systemic change and sustainable practices that will lead to environmental justice.
