Putting People First

When Access To Healthcare Is A Costly, Distant Dream.

When Access To Healthcare Is A Costly, Distant Dream.

Narok County faces significant infrastructural disparities. The county has less than 2 health facilities per 10,000 population, below the WHO recommendation of 5 facilities per 10,000. According to the Kenya Health Information System (KHIS, 2023), only about 58% of Narok residents can access healthcare when needed, compared to the national average of 73%.
In June 2025, our team was in Loita in Narok County for a community empowerment forum on biodiversity conservation, climate action, and natural resource management, with support from our partners WWF-Kenya. As a human rights organization that advocates for and amplifies the voices of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in Kenya, we couldn’t ignore the health inequalities and systemic injustices that these marginalized groups face.
Through our different strategic pillars including Health and WASH, we keep advocating for increased demand and access to comprehensive healthcare and quality, affordable health services, and WASH services for the marginalized.
We must work together to create responsive health systems that responds to the needs of the IPLCs and upholds their dignity.
Here is  a video highlight of the healthcare inequalities in Narok; captured during our visit to Entasekera Center in Loita.
