Rethinking Public Debt in Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Rethinking Public Debt in Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Did you know that Kenya’s public debt has surged to over 70% of GDP which is beyond the approved 55% debt anchor, which limits the government’s capacity to provide essential services and jeopardizing the realization of Economic, Social, and Cultural rights (ESCR) for million of citizens?

During this year’s People Dialogue Festival, in partnership with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR),@The Institute for Social Accountability (Tisa Kenya), @Institute of Public Finance (IPF), the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Budget Talk Global (BTG), we hosted a break-away session, where we interrogated how public debt in Kenya, is affecting the realization of Economic and Social Rights. This collaboration led to the development of a policy brief titled: “Rethinking Public Debt in Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.”
